Step 1: Cut a Hole in the Box

June 25, 2008 · 10 Comments

Did I mention that we sold our house? Well, we did. Yaaaay! I’ve been so hesitant to really say anything out loud, because for three weeks after reaching a contract agreement, I was convinced that the sale was going to fall through. But it didn’t! We made it through the drama with the homeowners association assholes, we made it through the home inspection, and now the closing is officially scheduled with the title company for Monday afternoon. This Monday. As in four days from today. So the movers are coming in two days to pick up our lives and move them into a storage facility. Two days. Ouch.

We just started packing a couple days ago, since I was afraid to really pack anything before that. What if I got my kitchen boxed up and then we lost the contract? Yeah, I’m a positive thinker like that. It’s been slow going, because I’m not a big fan of pacing myself, but I know that I can’t do too much so I have no choice but to take it down a notch. So here we are, two days out and not done yet. I think we have too much stuff.

How I approach packing: “Hi mom… what are you doing tonight? And tomorrow and the night after that? Do you have any vacation days coming?”

Mark’s packing philosophy: “Well, it’s not brain science… Layer of glassware, layer of hardcover books, top off with cutlery, seal with tape, label ‘miscellaneous’.”

Tonight we had a slight difference of opinion on how to pack a box. I started to tell him him how I thought it should be done (the right way), but immediately launched into a coughing fit where I may have peed my pants a little. I’ve since been warned that this is what happens when I don’t mind his “authori-tay”.

We’re moving in with my in-laws this weekend, where we’ll be living in the bedroom Mark grew up in until we figure out our next move. We’ll sleep in twin beds, but push them together on the weekends. Because I’m a romantic. *wink*

My husband couldn’t have greater parents, we’re so lucky to be able to stay with them as long as we need to. Now we don’t have to rush into any quick decisions, we can take our time to find the right house… life is good. And next up? We’re looking at a few houses next week, and we’ll see what happens from there.

So, I’m still here, just super busy and slightly overwhelmed. When you hear from me next, I’ll have significantly less weight on my shoulders.

milk&honey, OUT.
